People are always looking for ways to enhance the interior decor of their homes. Whether it is custom window treatments, or an off-the shelf blind, there are many ways for people to cover their windows while maintaining the integrity of their chosen decor.

What Are Vertical Blinds?

Many people choose to use blinds as a simple, unobtrusive way of covering their windows. In many cases, people choose to use vertical blinds to cover windows and large patio doors.

Vertical blinds are just as their name implies: they hang vertically, and the slats are attached to a top rod and hang downwards. They are often used to cover larger windows or patio doors because their slats are wider, and can overlap each other more easily than traditional window blinds.

Why Choose Vertical Blinds?

Many apartment managers choose to use vertical window blinds in place of traditional blinds because of their relatively low cost. Blinds can be purchased at low prices from Lowest Price Blinds, but not only that, most blinds can usually be repaired with simple maintenance, and very little out-of-pocket expense.

People often choose to use vertical window blinds to cover large windows or patio doors because they are simple and easy to operate.

The full coverage allows for better control over environmental factors such as sunlight and heat. They are also fairly inexpensive to install, which makes them very attractive to many consumers.

Disadvantages of Vertical Blinds

There are some disadvantages of using vertical window blinds.

They are relatively fragile, since there are individual mechanisms in the top rod of the blinds allowing them to turn to allow light in or block it out. These mechanisms are usually made of a light plastic, and can fracture easily. If one of the individual blinds won’t open all the way, it usually fails the whole system.

Vertical blinds also often hang all the way down to the floor, which means they are easily bumped or knocked into. This is a problem, because simply bumping into them will oftentimes fold one or several of the blinds into themselves the wrong way, not allowing them to open properly without manual adjustment.

The Future of Vertical Blinds

As long as people need a more inexpensive means of covering large windows, there will be a future for vertical window blinds.

While they definitely have their places in homes, they are not necessarily the best way to cover larger windows.

However, because of their simple, easy designs, and unobtrusive subtlety to a room’s decor, I see a sustainable future for vertical blinds. As long as they are properly handled and not mistreated or bumped too frequently, vertical window blinds can last for quite some time, making them an ideal window covering for many larger windows.
