Posted in Articles, Home Decor, Homemade Stuff by admin on the May 5th, 2009

Have you ever wanted to spruce up your kitchen or sitting room window?

Here is a simple idea to add a custom cafe touch.

This project is to basically put an awning up inside to look similar to those on the outside of many popular cafes and coffee shops. We recommend that this be used with a larger window with a nice view.

The basic layout of this project is to have two curtain rods with a piece of cloth stretched between them. The top rod will be close to the wall while the bottom rod will extend out from the wall anywhere from 6-12 inches.

A clean home is supposed to be a happy home. One feels more comfortable when the environment is mess-free. Moreover, it provides a great workout. Our experts have given some tips regarding organizing and cleaning your home.

The Closet

First of all, to begin cleaning your home, the closet should be examined. All those clothes that have lost their charm or don’t fit you any more should be given away to those in need.

Instead of hoarding too many clothes, it is better to keep a collection of a few distinctive ones. This way, you will be able to save some space in your closet and less ironing and steaming of the clothes will be required. The space thus saved can be used to keep storage containers.

Ethnic Furniture

Adding ethnic home accessories into your current home decor can dramatically change the look and feel of your home. Even a single, unusual centerpiece on a coffee table will make your decor a topic of conversation and change the look of the entire room. Of course, if you have money to burn your choices are limitless - but if money is tight, no problem! You don’t have to spend a fortune to redecorate with an ethnic theme.

Ethnic Decorations

Ethnic decor pieces can be found in all kinds of unexpected places. You’ll find them in specialty furnishing stores and on the web, but often some of the best treasures are from garage sales and thrift stores. In order to complete any type of project, one must know the basics to begin the task, and the task at hand is to design the interior of a room.

The very first step is to record the dimensions of the room you will be working with. Having a general visual of what the room looks like and knowing its shape is a great starting point, that way you will be able to recognize any problems that you may want to consider before beginning the job.

If you come to the realization that the room that you are working with does in fact have some defects, such as being too narrow or not having a focal point, it may be wise to evaluate the situation now rather than waiting until later.

This will enable you to have a better understanding of your interior design goals.

Curtains

Window Treatments can really bring a room together. They can add color to the room, make the sun shine in to bring a softer light or give the room a completely different personality. Natural light is the best way to add light into a room. It is not as harsh as fluorescent light nor is it as dull as filament lighting. Window treatments can go a long way to making a room more complete.

Wood Blinds, Curtains, and Shades

There are many different types of window treatments. Curtains, shades and blinds all bring together a room that might not feel as lively if it only had a bland window. Including Venetian blinds might give the room a more regal feel than adding in mini blinds. Wooden shades and blinds can give many different feelings. A darker wood for your blinds will give it a Victorian style feeling while the lighter style wood, like bamboo, will make the room feel more open and livelier.

When people start thinking about redoing a room in their house, they often leave window treatments until the end, or they forget about them altogether. That is a mistake. Window treatments can make a major difference in the feel of a room, and they come in a tremendous variety, partially because the windows themselves are so varied.

Not only do they have to tie into the overall theme, they affect the light that will illuminate the space.

Do you want something open and airy?

Or grand and stately?

Perhaps you would like a romantic and cozy feel?

All of these moods can be created with the proper window treatments.

When you are decorating your home, it is tempting to think primarily about colors, patterns and textures. Even shopping in stores, aesthetics tend to outshine all other considerations.

Planning a room without planning the way it will be used is probably the most common, and costly, mistake a home decorator can make.

After all, what is your main goal in rethinking a space?

Chances are you want to create an ideal place for family gathering. You want to think about where there people will actually gather. Whether you are having a few friends over, a big party, or just a bit of family, everyone seems to end up in the kitchen.
