How to Measure for Custom Blinds

Measuring for window treatments is not complicated as you think. Just start with the measuring tips provided below.

Measuring Tips

  • Always use steel measuring tape and measure for accuracy.

  • Record measurements in inches only. And always record the Width measurement first, then the Height second (W X H )

  • Measure to the nearest 1/8 inch (Do not round your measurement).

  • Measure every window, even if they look alike. (some windows are not perfectly square).

  • DO NOT measure the existing blinds. Measurements must be from measuring the window opening

  • For INSIDE MOUNT only - DO NOT TAKE ANY DEDUCTION. Our factory takes those allowances. You must provide us your EXACT WINDOW OPENING SIZE

  • For OUTSIDE MOUNT only you must provide the EXACT OVERALL BLINDS SIZE needed (by adding the necessary coverage to the width and the height of opening). Our factory will make no deduction or additions to your measurement.

  • Measuring Tips
Please decide first if you want your blinds to be mounted inside the window recess or outside on the molding or the wall before taking any measurements.

Inside Mount is the most popular and highly recommended to measure the windows since it provides beautiful and cleaner look. Blinds are mounted inside the opening window frame.

Outside Mount is alternative when you want more of a privacy area as well as more of light control or when your window is considerably out of square or it has little or lack of depth. You can even make a small window appear larger. Outside Mount blinds are mounted outside the window opening.
